Center for a New American Security elects Google Public Sector CEO Karen Dahut to its board

The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) has elected Karen Dahut, CEO of Google Public Sector, to its board. Dahut will join 18 other members on the board that governs the Washington, D.C.-based think tank dedicated to national security and defense policy.

Michèle Flournoy, chair of the CNAS Board of Directors, expressed her delight at Dahut's appointment in a press release. "We are thrilled to welcome Karen Dahut to the Center," said Flournoy. "Her leadership at the highest levels of technology and defense will make her an invaluable member to our Board of Directors and research team."

According to a Google blog post, Dahut leads Google’s effort as CEO of Google Public Sector to bring technologies—including data analytics, artificial intelligence, networking, cybersecurity and Workspace—to state, local and federal agencies as well as educational institutions. She joined Google Public Sector in September 2002, just months after its inception.

Prior to her tenure at Google Public Sector, according to the CNAS website, Dahut served as chief innovation officer at Booz Allen Hamilton. There she developed the company’s Strategic Innovation Group focusing on cybersecurity, data science and digital technologies.

The CNAS press release also notes that Dahut's expertise spans technology, the future of work, innovation and inclusive leadership. She holds board positions for several non-profit and private organizations including Dexcom and Eisner Advisory Group. Furthermore, Dahut serves as a trustee of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum and as a board member for the Viterbi School of Engineering's Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern California.
