Ukraine is set to receive a $300 million package of weapons from the United States, aimed at bolstering its defense against Russia. This announcement was made by U.S. Department of State (DOS) Secretary Antony J. Blinken.

"Today, the United States is announcing a package of weapons and equipment under previous drawdowns to support the people of Ukraine. We continue to urge Congress to advance our national security interests by helping Ukraine defend itself," said J. Blinken, according to X.

In a DOS news release, it was revealed that the U.S., in collaboration with 50 other countries, is facilitating Ukraine's access to weapons. The Biden administration remains committed to exploring other means of support if Congress does not approve an aid package for Ukraine. Since the onset of the Russian invasion in February 2022, this coalition has provided over $87 billion in aid to Ukraine.

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan expressed urgency regarding the current aid package's duration. "Weeks. Maybe even just a couple of weeks," Sullivan said, indicating that the assistance would not last long and stressing the need for immediate action on the supplemental.

Blinken further announced, "The United States is today announcing an additional package of weapons and equipment for Ukraine to support the brave Ukrainian people as they defend their country and their freedom against Russia’s aggression."

According to a Department of Defense (DOD) news release, the weapons will include Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, demolition munitions for obstacle clearing, ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems and dual-purpose improved cluster munitions rounds, anti-tank weapons, small arms ammunition, and spare parts along with other ancillary equipment.

"We urge the House to pass the supplemental as soon as possible to allow us to continue sending vital security assistance to Ukraine, replenish the U.S. military’s munition stocks and invest in our industrial base," Blinken added concerning the $300 million arms and equipment package under previously directed drawdowns for Ukraine.
