The Department of Labor is encouraging employers and stakeholders in North Carolina’s highway construction industry to participate in a statewide survey to help establish prevailing wage rates for construction workers on federally funded and assisted projects. According to the department, the prevailing wage rates should reflect the actual wages and fringe benefits paid to construction workers in the county where the work takes place.
"This survey requests information about wages paid by employers on highway construction projects in North Carolina where construction occurred from May 20, 2023, to Aug. 20, 2024," said the Department of Labor.
The survey findings are crucial for accurately determining prevailing wage and fringe benefit rates in the surveyed area, which can help reduce the number of contractors needing additional labor classifications. The department is urging all industry employers and stakeholders to participate in the survey, regardless of whether they have received a letter to do so.
Interested parties and contractors will receive notification letters directing them to the survey website. The deadline for online survey submission is Aug. 20, 2024, although participants can also submit information by mail after requesting a form from the division at (866) 236-2773.
"If you have questions about the survey process and forms, please contact the Davis-Bacon Survey Center at (866) 236-2773," advised the Department of Labor.
To provide more information about the survey, free online briefings will be held on May 21, 2024, and May 23, 2024, offering guidance on completing the survey. Interested individuals can register to attend these briefings and learn more about the survey process.
