Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo emphasized the significance of international trade in fostering economic growth and resilience, as the Biden-Harris Administration marked the commencement of World Trade Month.

“International trade is essential to our nation’s economic growth and helps Americans build more resilient businesses and communities,” said Secretary Raimondo.

During the month-long celebration of World Trade Month, the Commerce Department is set to underscore and reinforce the administration's dedication to enhancing economic cooperation with allies, fortifying supply chain resilience, ensuring fairness for American workers and businesses, and attracting foreign direct investment to generate quality employment opportunities in the United States.

“Throughout World Trade Month, the Commerce Department will celebrate and reaffirm the Biden-Harris Administration’s enduring commitment to deepening our economic cooperation with allies, bolstering supply chain resilience, ensuring a level playing field for American workers and businesses, and attracting foreign direct investment that creates good-paying jobs in the United States,” Secretary Raimondo stated.

World Trade Month, observed every May, serves as a platform to spotlight the role of international trade in driving innovation and reinforcing the U.S. economy by paving the way for prosperity nationwide, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, minority and women-owned businesses, and rural communities.

In line with the objectives of World Trade Month, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) is scheduled to host and engage in a range of in-person and virtual events, trade missions, and initiatives to assist U.S. businesses in competing and succeeding in the global marketplace.
