Chengdu, Sichuan Province – May 3, 2024: On the evening of April 24, 2024, a small group from Chengdu Early Rain Covenant Church faced a disturbing incident as they were studying the Bible at a Christian’s home in Wuhou District. The peaceful gathering was interrupted when police from Jinyang Police Station raided the Bible study, demanding the registration of identity information from all present.

Approximately twenty individuals, including police officers, auxiliary police, community workers, neighborhood committee members, and property management personnel, surrounded the area, preventing the Christians from leaving. The police justified their actions by claiming to have received a report about gambling. Despite the police's demands, the Christians present, including mothers with infants, chose not to cooperate, considering the law enforcement's entry into the home as illegal.

The standoff between the police and the Christians lasted from around 9:30 p.m. to approximately 11 p.m. Eventually, information was recorded inside the Christian’s home, with some individuals identified through facial recognition scans, allowing everyone to leave for their homes.

In response to the incident, Early Rain Covenant Church issued a prayer request letter, expressing their concerns and uncertainties. They stated, "We are still unclear about the reasons behind tonight’s incident and whether there will be further persecution." The church also requested prayers from fellow Christians, especially for those who were disturbed during the raid.

This event marks a rare intrusion on the church's small group Bible study meetings in homes, with the most recent persecution occurring on February 25, 2024, when Pastor Wu Wuqing was detained. The church remains vigilant and seeks support during these challenging times.
