(May 3, 2024) – CEO and owner of GSE Dynamics, Anne Shybunko-Moore, also an Executive Committee member of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), recently testified before the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) on the importance of supply chain resiliency. In her testimony, Shybunko-Moore emphasized the interconnected nature of the defense and civil supply chains, stating, "Our industrial base includes over 100,000 companies across the commercial and defense markets. Unlike other industries, the commercial aerospace and defense industries are deeply intertwined. Defense companies rely on the commercial market for access to minerals, materials, and products at scale, quality, and cost."
Shybunko-Moore proposed a collaborative approach to supply chain resiliency, recommending a balance between investments in domestic sourcing and flexible regulations that support cooperation with allies and partners. She highlighted the significance of global partnerships, asserting, "This approach should consider the critical role of the global market." Furthermore, she urged the U.S. government to consider implementing and expanding policies like the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act’s Advanced Manufacturing Tax credit to stimulate industry growth.
In addition, Shybunko-Moore discussed the importance of trade remedies in protecting domestic industry, cautioning that such measures should be carefully tailored to avoid imposing undue costs on businesses, particularly smaller suppliers. She encouraged ongoing engagement with the industry to assess the potential impacts of tariffs on competitiveness and consumer pricing.
