WASHINGTON – Global tech trade association ITI has welcomed the release of the U.S. International Cyberspace and Digital Policy Strategy. In a statement issued today, ITI's Senior Vice President of Policy and General Counsel, John Miller, emphasized the importance of maintaining a secure and trusted internet for global economic growth and innovation.
"Maintaining a secure, open, interoperable, resilient, and trusted internet is foundational to enabling global economic growth and continued innovation," stated Miller. He commended the Biden Administration for its proactive approach and recognition of the need for 'digital solidarity' with international partners, the private sector, and civil society in addressing cyber and digital challenges.
While acknowledging the need for further review, Miller expressed appreciation for the comprehensive focus of the strategy, particularly highlighting the emphasis on building secure information and communications technology networks, coordinating governance of emerging technology internationally, and promoting trusted cross-border data flows.
ITI also welcomed the administration's grounding of the strategy in international commitments and law, as well as its focus on harnessing the benefits of technology. Looking ahead, Miller stated, "We look forward to learning more from the administration and working with international governments, industry, and civil society partners to advance this effort."
