Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, embarked on a diplomatic mission from Washington on May 11, setting course for Uganda, Kenya, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. The purpose of his journey is to engage with crucial regional partners in an effort to resolve the ongoing conflict in Sudan, prevent further mass atrocities, address the urgent humanitarian needs of the Sudanese people, and lay out a roadmap for transitioning to a civilian-led democratic government.
In his meetings with partner governments, Perriello will coordinate diplomatic efforts aimed at resuming negotiations and applying necessary pressure to protect civilians and cease hostilities. His mission also includes facilitating the transition towards a civilian-led democratic government.
Furthermore, Perriello will engage with a diverse cross-section of Sudanese civilians. This includes members of civil society, resistance committees, local response networks, women's groups, youth organizations, grassroots entities and other interested parties. These interactions are intended to gather their perspectives on how best to strengthen efforts to end the conflict.
