The Center for American Progress' (CAP) Reel Progress series has announced its sponsorship of the 2024 DC/DOX Documentary Film Festival. Based in Washington, D.C., DC/DOX is a documentary film festival committed to promoting nonfiction storytelling through moderated discussions with leading subject matter experts and filmmakers.
As part of the festival, CAP's Reel Progress will host a screening of "The Bitter Pill" on June 14. This documentary follows plaintiff attorney Paul Farrell Jr., who sought to hold pharmaceutical companies accountable for their role in the opioid epidemic that devastated his hometown, Huntington, West Virginia. The film reveals how Farrell's legal strategy evolved into the largest civil litigation against the pharmaceutical industry in U.S. history.
The screening of "The Bitter Pill" will take place at CAP's event space on Friday, June 14, at 6:00 p.m., as part of the DC/DOX Documentary Film Festival. A panel discussion featuring the filmmakers and subjects of the film will follow the screening.
Reel Progress is a progressive film series sponsored by CAP. Since its inception in 2005, it has hosted free public screenings in Washington, D.C., and across the country. These events are often accompanied by engaging panel discussions with leading policy experts, actors, and filmmakers. The series aims to promote a progressive agenda through innovative films that connect arts to campaigns for social change and progressive public policy.
