Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning lauded Congress today for their bipartisan vote to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for five years. This move concludes a sequence of extensions that had been causing uncertainty for crucial programs within the FAA.
"The United States is the global leader in aviation, the gold standard of safety, and the birthplace of next-generation innovation that will transform the way we travel. Today’s vote reflects a unified commitment to maintaining that position," Fanning said.
He further emphasized on the importance of FAA's work in shaping the future of aviation. The new legislation will enable FAA to modernize their processes for safety and efficiency, advance technological development, and cultivate the workforce needed to accomplish these tasks along with many other AIA priorities.
Fanning expressed gratitude towards Congress, particularly Chair Cantwell, Ranking Member Cruz, Chairman Graves, and Ranking Member Larsen, for their efforts in passing this critical legislation. He also expressed anticipation towards President Biden signing it into law.
The AIA had championed key priorities that were included in this legislation. It has consistently urged Congress to reauthorize the FAA for five years and sent a letter to congressional leaders last November labeling it as "vitally important."
