As National Police Week commences, The Heritage Foundation's leading crime experts and former prosecutors are calling for national support for law enforcement communities amidst a surge in crime across the United States.
Cully Stimson, a Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation and a former state and federal prosecutor, expressed his concerns about the current state of law enforcement. He stated, “Now is more important than ever to back our brave men and women serving in 18,000 police departments across 50 U.S. states and territories. Rogue prosecutors—many of whom are funded by George Soros—are willfully creating lawlessness in order to appease the demands of the radical Left’s pro-crime, anti-victim agenda. As a former prosecutor, it is shameful to see my colleagues produce an environment that is unsafe for virtually all Americans."
Stimson advocated for increased support rather than defunding or dismantling law enforcement agencies. He argued that such support should involve providing authorities with more funding, training, and resources at local, state, and federal levels.
Zack Smith, another Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation and a former federal prosecutor, echoed Stimson's sentiments as he commemorated the nation's law enforcement efforts this week. Smith said, “As we commemorate our nation’s law enforcement this week, we ought to remember that where there’s crime there must also be accountability—or more crime will follow."
Smith pointed out the daily risks taken by law enforcement officers to protect communities and maintain accountability. However, he noted with concern that many criminals continue to evade punishment due to George Soros-backed prosecutors—who now represent one in five Americans. He concluded by saying "No society can function without law and order. The radical Left’s anti-police policies are creating enormous economic costs for businesses and taking the lives of innocent Americans. Their vision for American society is outright dangerous and must be addressed.”
Both Cully Stimson and Zack Smith have authored a book titled 'Rogue Prosecutors: How Radical Soros Lawyers are Destroying America’s Communities.'
