The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT), in conjunction with other leading civil society organizations, has urged the Senate to further refine the Kids Online Safety Act. These organizations, which include the ACLU, EFF, Fight for the Future, and New America’s Open Technology Institute, have expressed concerns that the current bill could lead to censorship and heightened risks to internet users' privacy.
Recent news reports suggest that the Senate may soon bring KOSA to a vote. While these organizations are united in their goal of ensuring online safety for children, they appreciate the positive amendments made so far in response to concerns raised by civil society, LGBTQ communities, and grassroots advocates. However, they have called on Senators to continue this process of engagement and make additional changes to mitigate lingering concerns about potential censorship and infringement on privacy rights.
