The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) is in mourning following the passing of industry icon Donald R. Horton, founder of D.R. Horton, Inc. The news was confirmed by Carl Harris, chairman of NAHB and a custom home builder from Wichita, Kan.
Harris paid tribute to Horton's legacy in a statement: “The nation’s home builders mourn the passing of Donald R. Horton. Don was an icon in the home building industry, and the company he founded more than four decades ago, D.R. Horton, Inc., has been one of the leading home building firms in the nation for nearly a half a century."
Horton started his career with a local firm in Fort Worth Texas and over time built his company into a national powerhouse that has helped more than 1 million families achieve their dream of homeownership.
"Don was a true titan of housing who left an indelible mark on the home building industry, and he will be sorely missed,” Harris concluded.
