U.S. Representative Mark Green has stated that Mexican drug cartels are trafficking fentanyl across the border, resulting in American deaths. He further accused the "far left" of advocating for "mass illegal immigration." Green made these assertions in a post on X on May 16.

"The far left will tolerate drug cartels bringing fentanyl and killing Americans, and tens of thousands of Chinese nationals illegally entering our country, all to fulfill its agenda—mass illegal immigration," said U.S. Rep. Mark Green, U.S. Rep from Tennessee, Chairman of Homeland Security Committee.

According to the Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) 2024 National Drug Threat Assessment, cartels have facilitated the presence of fentanyl in almost all 50 U.S. states by producing it in Mexico and smuggling it into the United States. The DEA Assessment states, "The Sinaloa Cartel reap[s] billions of dollars in profits from the fentanyl trade."

Data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection reveals that December of FY24 witnessed a record 301,980 known illegal border crossings, compared to 73,994 in December of FY21. To date, there have been 1,520,502 illegal border crossings in FY24, excluding instances of "gotaways," where migrants did not encounter Border Patrol officers.

The House Homeland Security Committee confirms that U.S. Customs and Border Protection has recorded 1.7 million known "gotaways," or individuals who have crossed illegally without being detected at the border but whose presence is known through other surveillance methods.

Further data from the House Committee on Homeland Security indicates that 24,214 Chinese immigrants have illegally crossed the United States southwest border over the past year. Comparing March 2021 and March 2024 figures shows an astounding 8000% increase in Chinese illegal crossings.

Green was elected to Congress in 2019 and represents Tennessee's 7th District as per his website details. A veteran and physician by profession, he serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security and is also a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
