STRESA – Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen met with Italy’s Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti on May 15, 2024, during the G7 Finance Minister and Central Bank Governor Meetings in Stresa, Italy.
During their discussion, Secretary Yellen and Minister Giorgetti exchanged views on shared G7 priorities under Italy's presidency. They addressed ways to unlock the value of immobilized Russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine’s resistance and long-term reconstruction efforts. The conversation also included strategies to restrict Russia’s access to essential goods for weapon production, emphasizing China's role in supplying Russia’s military industrial complex.
