Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell will host Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Okano Masataka and Republic of Korea (ROK) First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hong Kyun for a trilateral dialogue in Little Washington, Virginia, on May 31. This dialogue, a key deliverable from the 2023 Camp David Summit, aims to reaffirm the importance of trilateral cooperation in advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

The discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation in economic security, critical and emerging technologies, and maritime security. Additionally, the dialogue will address regional and global challenges such as threats posed by the DPRK to regional and global peace and security, Russia’s war against Ukraine, maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and providing humanitarian support for Gaza.

Deputy Secretary Campbell will also engage in separate bilateral meetings with his counterparts. On May 30, he and Vice Minister Okano will participate in the inaugural meeting of the vice-ministerial U.S.-Japan Strategic Diplomacy and Development Dialogue alongside USAID Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman. On the morning of May 31, Campbell will meet with First Vice Foreign Minister Kim to discuss the role of the U.S.-ROK Alliance in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
