Seventeenth annual microeconomics conference scheduled by FTC in November

The Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Economics and the Tobin Center for Economic Policy at Yale University will host the 17th Annual FTC Microeconomics Conference on November 14 and 15, 2024, in Washington, D.C. The event aims to gather scholars focused on antitrust, consumer protection, and public policy issues pertinent to the FTC’s mission. The conference will be held in person with a live stream available for remote viewers.

The Scientific Committee includes Allan Collard-Wexler from Duke University, Zack Cooper from Yale University, and Pinar Yildirim from the University of Pennsylvania. Viola Chen and Samuel Kleiner from the FTC are organizing the event. For inquiries, contact Stephanie Aaron at BE-Micro@ftc.gov.

Submissions are invited in various areas of applied microeconomics such as industrial organization, information economics, health economics, behavioral economics, and quantitative marketing. Papers addressing vertical integration and mergers, labor markets and monopsony power, digital markets, and the impact of new technologies like AI on marketplaces are particularly encouraged. Past conferences have covered topics including advertising, collusion, consumer decision-making, demand estimation, intellectual property, merger policy, privacy and data security.

Interested participants should submit an abstract or completed paper by June 18, 2024 to BE-Micro@ftc.gov. Preference will be given to completed papers. A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt; if not received promptly after submission it indicates non-receipt by organizers. Accepted participants must provide a financial disclosure statement according to AEA guidelines for inclusion in their conference bios.

Registration requires filling out a form with personal details such as name and email address. Confirmation emails will follow successful registration along with further conference information. Collected contact information is subject to FTC Act regulations regarding pre-registration data use.

Attendance is free and open to the public but requires early arrival for security processing which includes metal detector screening and X-ray inspection of hand-carried items. Valid government-issued photo ID is mandatory for entry. The conference adheres to AEA’s code of professional conduct.
