Apple today introduced Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This new system combines generative models with personal context to deliver relevant and useful intelligence. Integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, Apple Intelligence utilizes Apple silicon to understand and create language and images, perform actions across apps, and simplify everyday tasks.
"We’re thrilled to introduce a new chapter in Apple innovation. Apple Intelligence will transform what users can do with our products — and what our products can do for our users," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "Our unique approach combines generative AI with a user’s personal context to deliver truly helpful intelligence. And it can access that information in a completely private and secure way to help users do the things that matter most to them."
Apple Intelligence introduces new Writing Tools within iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. These tools enable users to rewrite, proofread, and summarize text across various applications including Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps.
In Mail, Priority Messages highlights urgent emails at the top of the inbox while Smart Reply provides quick response suggestions. Notifications are also enhanced with Priority Notifications appearing at the top of the stack and summaries available on the Lock Screen.
The Notes and Phone apps now support recording, transcribing, and summarizing audio. Image creation capabilities are expanded with Image Playground allowing users to create images in Animation, Illustration or Sketch styles directly within apps like Messages.
Users can also create personalized Genmoji by typing descriptions or using photos from their library. Enhanced search functions allow natural language queries for specific photos or moments in videos.
Memories feature enables users to craft storylines from their photos and videos based on typed descriptions. Siri integration is deepened with richer language-understanding capabilities enabling more contextual interactions.
Apple Intelligence emphasizes privacy through on-device processing complemented by Private Cloud Compute for complex requests. This ensures data remains private while extending computational capacity.
Additionally, ChatGPT integration within iOS 18 allows access to its expertise without switching tools. Privacy protections ensure user data is secure when interacting with ChatGPT features.
Apple Intelligence will be available in beta as part of iOS 18 this fall in U.S. English on select devices including iPhone 15 Pro models and later versions of iPad and Mac with M1 chips or newer.
