Senate subcommittee to discuss competition's role in economic resiliency

The Senate Judiciary subcommittee on antitrust has scheduled a hearing on Wednesday titled “Strengthening U.S. Economic Leadership: The Role of Competition in Enhancing Economic Resiliency.” This hearing aims to examine how competition and robust supply chains contribute to economic resilience and the role of the current antitrust framework in achieving these goals in the U.S. and other major economies.

Since the pandemic, U.S. economic performance and productivity have outpaced those of G7 peer countries, with the U.S. share of global GDP increasing steadily since 2011. This trend indicates that the U.S. economy remains highly resilient despite crises that disrupt global supply chains, highlighting the advantages of the existing U.S. approach.

For over 50 years, the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) has promoted sound competition and consumer protection principles within the tech industry.

CCIA President Matt Schruers stated, “It is important to understand what works when it comes to the economy and what factors can foster or impede competition in the digital markets that are supporting that growth. The digital economy is powering U.S. economic growth and understanding why and how this is happening should inform policymakers and voters ahead of the election.”
