Netflix has announced the production of two new Swedish films, "Trustor" and "Off Track 2." The documentary "Trustor," directed by Karin af Klintberg and Teresa Alldén, explores the infamous Trustor affair, one of Sweden's largest financial scandals.
In this film, Guldbagge award-winning director Klintberg seeks out Joachim Posener, who disappeared in 1997 and has been on the international most-wanted list ever since. For the first time in nearly three decades, Posener agrees to be interviewed about his life and involvement in the Trustor affair.
"It is a man's world with a unique gallery of characters in this documentary," said Klintberg. "A British lord, some party-loving guys pouring out champagne on the Riviera, a pale 'puppet master' orchestrating in the background from prison. It's men playing the system... Regardless of whether it was a genius or a clumsy coup, the thieves went home with a box of cash without wearing a mask or having fired a single shot. But there were also victims; that must not be forgotten."
Producer Teresa Alldén added: "I have been trying to reach the mystery that is Posener my whole working life... It would have been an anticlimax to produce a documentary about the Trustor affair without him."
The sequel "Off Track 2" continues the story from its predecessor, following Lisa as she prepares for Vätternrundan, one of the world's largest exercise bike races. Directed by Mårten Klingberg and written alongside Maria Karlsson and Christin Magdu, this drama-comedy navigates personal relationships amidst physical challenges.
Lisa now lives with her daughter Elvira and boyfriend Anders but faces uncertainties regarding their future together. Her brother Daniel decides to join her for Vätternrundan after his wife Klara announces she wants a divorce. As Daniel and Klara attempt to reconcile during their journey, Lisa contemplates buying a house and marriage while reconnecting with an old ex.
"It feels great to be able to tell another story about these characters that are so close to my heart," said Klingberg. Lead actor Katia Winter expressed enthusiasm: "I am very happy that we are doing a sequel... The first film was very appreciated by many, so it feels great to give the audience another one."
Both films are slated for release on Netflix in 2025.
