AMA announces new leadership for 2024–2025

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Bruce A. Scott, M.D., an otolaryngologist from Kentucky, was sworn in as the 179th president of the American Medical Association (AMA). Dr. Scott's inauguration marks the transition of the office from Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, M.D., M.P.H., an anesthesiologist from Wisconsin. Following his presidential term, Dr. Ehrenfeld now serves as the AMA immediate past president.

Bobby Mukkamala, M.D., an otolaryngologist from Flint, Michigan, has been elected president-elect of the AMA and will assume the presidency in June 2025.

Michael Suk, M.D., J.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., an orthopedic surgeon from Pennsylvania, is the new chair of the AMA Board of Trustees. David H. Aizuss, M.D., an ophthalmologist from California, has been named chair-elect of the Board.

The executive committee members on the AMA Board of Trustees for 2024-2025 include:

- Toluwalasé A. Ajayi, M.D., a pediatrician and palliative medicine physician from California, serving as secretary.

- Lisa Bohman Egbert, M.D., an obstetrician-gynecologist from Ohio, serving as speaker of the AMA House of Delegates.

- Willie Underwood III, M.D., M.Sc., M.P.H., a urologist from New York, serving as immediate past chair.

Newly appointed members to the Board of Trustees are:

- Geralyn R. Breig, public member and Revlon executive from Connecticut.

- Melissa J. Garretson, M.D., a pediatric emergency medicine physician from Texas.

- Lynn Jeffers, M.D., M.B.A., a plastic surgeon from California.

- David J. Welsh, M.D., M.B.A., a surgeon from Indiana.

Returning members include:

- John H. Armstrong, M.D., a trauma surgeon from Florida and vice speaker of the AMA House of Delegates.

- Madelyn E. Butler, M.D., an obstetrician-gynecologist from Florida.

- Alexander Ding, M.D., M.S., M.B.A., a radiologist from Kentucky.

- Scott Ferguson, M.D., a diagnostic radiologist from Arkansas.

- Sandra Adamson Fryhofer, M.D., an internist from Georgia.

- Marilyn J. Heine, M.D., an emergency medicine and hematology oncology physician from Pennsylvania.

- Pratistha Koirala, D.O.M.P.H.&T.M.PhD candidate and obstetrician-gynecologist resident in Connecticut.

- Ilse R. Levin,D.O.M.P.H.&T.M.an internist and epidemiologist in Maryland

Members of the AMA Board of Trustees are elected by physicians and medical students representing more than 190 state and specialty medical societies who gather for the Annual Meeting of the House of Delegates—the AMA’s policy-making body. The mission of the AMA is to promote the art and science of medicine and improve public health.
