U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo met virtually with the Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness (ACSCC) yesterday. During the meeting, Secretary Raimondo emphasized the Department of Commerce's role in addressing supply chain resilience and economic security challenges. She highlighted the importance of leveraging the Department’s Supply Chain Center to preemptively address supply chain issues in collaboration with the private sector and international partners.
Secretary Raimondo also provided updates on significant investments by the Biden-Harris Administration aimed at strengthening supply chains and preventing future disruptions. She reaffirmed the Administration's commitment to expanding production capacity in key sectors and building infrastructure, specifically mentioning progress in implementing the CHIPS and Science Act.
Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Industry & Analysis Grant T. Harris updated attendees on efforts by the Supply Chain Center to bolster supply chain resilience, mitigate risks, and safeguard U.S. economic and national security interests. Harris described initiatives such as creating a cross-sectoral risk assessment framework to identify systemic supply chain risks across the economy and developing a playbook for understanding and driving actions to strengthen critical and emerging technology supply chains.
Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets Arun Venkataraman led a session focused on increasing collaboration with Vietnam and India to diversify and enhance supply chain resilience. Sharon Yuan, Chief Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) Negotiator, provided an update on collaborative efforts among IPEF partners to identify mutual supply chain priorities, share information, and coordinate actions to enhance global supply chain resilience consistent with shared values.
The ACSCC advises the Secretary of Commerce on comprehensive national freight infrastructure elements designed to support U.S. export growth, foster national economic competitiveness, and improve domestic and global supply chain competitiveness. The Committee’s work aligns with the Administration’s goals for export growth, economic development, and job creation.
The Supply Chain Center (SCC), part of the International Trade Administration’s Industry & Analysis unit, works proactively with American businesses to increase supply chain resilience. The SCC integrates industry expertise with data analytics to develop innovative risk assessment tools, coordinate case studies on critical supply chains, and collaborate with industry stakeholders both domestically and internationally.
