Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III announced today that the president has made several nominations for high-ranking military positions.
Army Maj. Gen. David J. Francis has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general, with an assignment as deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command; and commanding general, U.S. Army Center for Initial Military Training at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. Francis is currently serving as the chief of staff, U.S. Africa Command in Germany.
Army Maj. Gen. Mark H. Landes has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general, with an assignment as commanding general, First U.S. Army at Rock Island, Illinois. Landes is currently serving as the special assistant to the commanding general, U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, with duty at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Army Maj. Gen. Matthew E. McFarlane has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general, with an assignment as commanding general, I Corps at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state. McFarlane is currently serving as the deputy commanding general of I Corps at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Army Maj. Gen. Paul T. Stanton has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general, with an assignment as director of the Defense Information Systems Agency; and commander of Joint Forces Headquarters-Department of Defense Information Network at Fort Meade in Maryland. Stanton is currently serving as the commanding general of Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Eisenhower in Georgia.
Air Force Col. William J. Creeden has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general. Creeden is currently serving as deputy commander of Fifteenth Air Force under Air Combat Command at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.
