U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has reported that last week its agents at the Del Rio Port of Entry apprehended two males with outstanding felony warrants for sex-related offenses. The men were taken into custody within a period of 48 hours.

According to a CBP press release, on June 15, agents at the Del Rio International Bridge referred vehicle driver and U.S. citizen Mario Venegas, 60, for a secondary inspection. While conducting the secondary examination, the officers confirmed Venegas’ identity via biometric verification. The verification revealed he has an outstanding felony arrest warrant for a sexual offense against a child issued by Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office. CBP agents transferred custody of Venegas to Val Verde County Sheriff’s deputies for adjudication of his warrant.

The day prior, Eliezar Hernandez Sr., 84 and also a U.S. citizen, was apprehended after CBP agents verified his identity during a secondary vehicle inspection. The biometric verification confirmed he has an outstanding felony arrest warrant for sexual assault of a spouse. The Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office had issued the warrant. CBP officers turned Hernandez Sr. over to Val Verde County sheriff’s deputies for adjudication of his warrant.

"In back-to-back fashion, our frontline officers intercepted two men within a 48-hour period that had outstanding felony warrants for sex-related offenses," Port Director Liliana Flores, Del Rio Port of Entry, said in a press release. "These apprehensions exemplify the important role CBP officers play in ensuring that justice is carried out and keeping our communities safe and secure," Flores added.
