In 2018, Netflix's positive experience producing series and films in New Mexico led to the establishment of a new production hub in Albuquerque. This decision marked the company's first purchase of a production studio complex, which included eight sound stages on 28 acres and a rich history of productions, including "The Avengers," "Breaking Bad," and "Sicario."

Six years later, Netflix has announced the expansion of its West Coast production facility. The newly expanded site features four new soundstages, three mills, one production office, two stage support buildings, and two dedicated backlot areas across 108 acres. According to the company, this expansion will enable enhanced creative output and allow for more compelling films and series for their global audience.

"As part of our commitment to sustainability, the expanded studio incorporates several new features," stated Netflix. These include on-site solar and battery storage systems, geothermal heating and cooling, all-electric appliances, and 50 electric vehicle fast chargers. These additions aim to reduce the studio's carbon footprint while lowering operating costs.

Since acquiring Albuquerque Studios, Netflix has praised New Mexico as an exceptional production hub due to its diverse landscapes, talented workforce, and supportive community. Notable productions filmed in New Mexico include "Stranger Things," "The Harder They Fall," "Army of the Dead," and "El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie." Future projects slated for filming at the studio include "Ransom Canyon," a contemporary Western romance; "Pulse," a medical procedural; and "The Boroughs," a supernatural show.

Netflix’s continued investment in New Mexico underscores its commitment to the local community. Since 2019, Netflix has invested nearly $575 million directly into New Mexico productions. When considering other productions that have utilized Netflix Studios Albuquerque facilities, this investment approaches $900 million. Additionally, over 4,000 cast and crew members were hired from 2021 to 2023.

In 2022, Netflix launched "Netflix in Your Neighborhood," a website encouraging fans to explore filming locations across New Mexico featured in popular titles like “Stranger Things,” “Chupa,” “Better Call Saul,” “The Harder They Fall,” and “Army of the Dead.” The goal is to contribute culturally to the state by bringing excitement beyond screens into communities.

Netflix extended gratitude towards New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Senator Ben Ray Luján, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller as well as numerous vendor partners including the 2,800 construction workers involved in making this expansion possible.

"We are incredibly proud to be part of the New Mexico community and are committed to bringing more captivating stories to life through the expanded Netflix Studios Albuquerque."
