The Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP) has announced the election of former Vice Chair Dr. Justinian Rudelson Ben-Adam as the new Chair of the Board. The board has accepted the resignation of former Chair Nury Turkel.
The UHRP maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and is committed to upholding high ethical standards. The organization strives to create a welcoming work environment for women and all activists within the Uyghur human rights movement.
"We recognize the seriousness of these allegations," said a spokesperson for UHRP. "When such accusations arise, we immediately decide to conduct a thorough investigation and have engaged a reputable, experienced law firm to carry out this inquiry."
The UHRP is committed to further independent investigations into any claims of sexual harassment to ensure that all concerns raised by complainants and witnesses are addressed anonymously.
With assistance from its partners, UHRP is actively seeking more guidance to help with self-examination aimed at identifying shortcomings in current workplace conduct and complaint policies. The goal is to develop better complaint processes so individuals can raise concerns without fear and ensure complaints are promptly addressed with accountability.
"We will take additional specific steps to address gender-based violence and sexual harassment in the workplace," stated the spokesperson, "to ensure that UHRP provides a safe working environment for everyone."
As an organizational team, UHRP believes it can improve its practices. "We appreciate our partners and organizations who share their concerns with us; once again, we reaffirm our zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment or intimidation."
