U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued a statement on President Biden’s supplemental funding request submitted to Congress today. The request includes updated funding to address urgent disaster relief needs across the country, building on the President’s previous domestic supplemental funding request from October.
"Making sure communities across America can recover and rebuild after disaster strikes is one of our fundamental obligations here in Congress," stated Senator Murray.
The President's request includes new resources for rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge and aiding communities affected by wildfires, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. "I look forward to working with Vice Chair Collins, Chairman Cole, Ranking Member DeLauro, and our colleagues in the coming weeks to ensure we deliver this much-needed relief," said Murray. "Families who’ve lost homes, workers who’ve lost their livelihoods, and communities who are working to rebuild are counting on Congress to step up and provide the help they need—and it’s critical we do just that."
Senator Murray also emphasized the importance of addressing other pressing issues such as the child care crisis, restoring funding for high-speed internet access that benefited 23 million Americans, and tackling the fentanyl crisis. "I’m going to keep pushing to do just that—but we need bipartisan support to make it happen," she added.
