The U.S. Department of Labor has announced the allocation of up to $13.9 million in funding to support pilot programs aimed at delivering information technology skills, training, and job services to Job Corps students. Management and Training Corp. (MTC) will receive up to $3.9 million, while Net America Corp. will be awarded up to $9.9 million for demonstration projects in the Atlanta and San Francisco regions.

These initiatives are managed by the department’s Employment and Training Administration and aim to test new approaches for IT-focused training and employment services at Job Corps centers. The recipients will commence training this summer, offering students 48 months of career technical training and up to 12 months of employment counseling post-separation from the academy at nine Job Corps centers.

"Industry-aligned partnerships, in-demand education and training, and clear pathways to good jobs are just some of the reasons the Job Corps program continues to be an important investment in our nation’s young people," said Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training José Javier Rodríguez. "This new investment in nimbler, more industry-responsive IT training curricula will help America’s young people launch their careers with a leg up, building economic security for themselves and their families."

Funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, this initiative allows recipients to offer expanded career technical training, career counseling, supportive services, and relevant work-based learning opportunities that lead to industry-recognized credentials.

MTC is based in Centerville, Utah, operating 19 federal Job Corps centers nationwide including five partner centers, training nearly 7,000 students daily. Net America Corp., headquartered in Upper Marlboro, Maryland provides program management, information systems, and contact centers for federal agencies such as Commerce Department, Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and NASA.

Established in 1964, Job Corps is a federal career technical training program targeting eligible young individuals aged 16-24 who seek higher education or good jobs. It operates over 120 residential and nonresidential locations across the United States offering free programs and services.
