The U.S. Department of State announced today that Teddy Swims, Jelly Roll, and BRELAND have commenced their roles as U.S. Global Music Ambassadors by engaging audiences globally through music during their tours, performances, and songwriting camps. This initiative is part of the State Department-YouTube’s Global Music Partnership, recently introduced by Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and YouTube’s Global Head of Music Lyor Cohen. The program aims to use music to foster unity and promote peace worldwide on behalf of the American people.
Teddy Swims visited New Zealand from July 4-7, 2024, as part of his sold-out ‘I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy’ Tour. During his stay, he engaged with audiences both on stage and within local communities across the country. Swims also participated in ‘Red Nose Day’ in Auckland with an impromptu performance aimed at raising awareness for better health outcomes for children through medical research. Additionally, he visited a school in Christchurch where he connected with youth through his music. His tour will continue throughout July with stops in Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, and Japan.
From July 8-9, 2024, while performing in Canada, Jelly Roll visited the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. There he interacted with staff and patients dealing with mental illness and substance use disorders through song and conversation. Jelly Roll shared his personal experiences with mental health and addiction while emphasizing the importance of combating fentanyl and highlighting the positive impact music has had on his life.
Lastly, from July 7-13, 2024, BRELAND traveled to South Korea where he participated in a songwriting camp alongside a South Korean record label and local songwriters. During this visit, BRELAND met with Philip Goldberg, the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea.
