Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa today to congratulate him on his new role. The conversation, as reported by Spokesperson Matthew Miller, reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Thailand treaty alliance and partnership, as well as the U.S. commitment to the broader Indo-Pacific region.
During their discussion, Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Maris explored ways in which the United States and Thailand can continue to contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity both regionally and globally.
Secretary Blinken expressed gratitude for Thailand’s support of the June 6 joint statement calling for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. Both parties agreed to collaborate towards a comprehensive ceasefire deal that would facilitate the release of hostages, including Thai nationals, and significantly increase humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza.
The Secretary emphasized his anticipation of working with Foreign Minister Maris on various opportunities and challenges affecting both nations.
