Apple released new versions of Final Cut Pro for iPad and Mac today, introducing significant updates aimed at enhancing production capabilities and workflow efficiency.
Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 leverages the power of the new iPad Pro with the M4 chip, enabling up to twice as fast rendering and supporting up to four times more streams of ProRes RAW compared to the M1. The update introduces Live Multicam, allowing users to wirelessly connect and preview up to four cameras simultaneously. This feature is powered by the new pro app Final Cut Camera, which also functions as a standalone recording app on both iPhone and iPad, offering manual control over settings such as focus, shutter speed, and ISO.
Additionally, Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 now supports external projects, addressing a top-requested feature by enabling users to create or open projects without using internal storage space. The update also includes support for the new Apple Pencil Pro, which offers enhanced control through features like barrel roll for Live Drawing tools and squeeze functionality for quick access to brushes and settings.
Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 introduces AI-driven features that enhance video editing workflows. Utilizing Apple's Neural Engine, the new Enhance Light and Color feature automatically adjusts video color correction, while Smooth Slo-Mo blends video frames for improved motion quality. Organizational tools have been added to improve post-production efficiency, including custom names for color corrections and video effects in the inspector, search functionality for clips with missing media or effects in the timeline index, and text-based timeline search capabilities.
Both Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 are available as free updates for existing users. New users can purchase Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 from the App Store at $4.99 per month or $49 per year (U.S.), while Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 is available on the Mac App Store for $299.99 (U.S.).
