WASHINGTON DC -- Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party appeared on NewsNation's Prime over the weekend to discuss various issues related to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The topics included the CCP's purchase of land near U.S. military bases, tax rebates for fentanyl exports into the U.S., and its authoritarian alignment with Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
Moolenaar addressed concerns about companies with ties to the CCP, such as Gotion in Michigan, purchasing land and potentially conducting espionage near U.S. military bases. "We've seen hundreds of incidents of gate-crashing at military bases from foreign nationals, many of them Chinese," he said. "They put leverage on people based in America to do spying for China and to carry out the will of the Chinese Communist Party." He added that there is a process through the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US that has jurisdiction over projects like Gotion's.
Regarding fentanyl flow into the U.S., Moolenaar highlighted China's role in manufacturing precursor chemicals used by drug cartels in Mexico. "We do know that China is manufacturing the precursor chemicals... poisoning hundreds of thousands of Americans," he stated. He explained that these chemicals are then brought across the Southern border into the U.S., facilitated by tax policies that provide rebates to chemical companies exporting these substances.
On authoritarian alignments, Moolenaar expressed concern over China's partnerships with Russia, North Korea, and Iran. "[China and Russia] described their relationship as a 'no limits partnership'. And that is a huge concern," he remarked. He emphasized China's financial support for Russia's war in Ukraine and noted recent visits by Hamas to China as troubling indicators.
