On August 14, 2024, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken issued a press statement congratulating the Republic of Korea on its National Day.
"On behalf of the Government of the United States of America, I extend a heartfelt congratulations to the Republic of Korea on this joyous and celebratory National Day," Blinken stated.
He highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations and acknowledged the founding of the Republic of Korea as a significant milestone. "We commemorate our two great countries’ enduring friendship and the founding of your republic, which has grown into a beacon of democracy and enabled prosperity for millions of people."
Blinken reaffirmed the United States' commitment to its alliance with South Korea, noting that it remains strong after seventy-one years. "The United States remains firmly committed to our ironclad Alliance with the Republic of Korea. Together, we will continue to work side-by-side, upholding our shared values of international peace and stability, human rights, and individual liberties."
He concluded his message by extending best wishes to the people of South Korea on their National Day.
