Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources Geoffrey R. Pyatt will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from August 21-22 to engage with industry representatives, academia, community leaders, and NGOs. The visit aims to highlight the Bureau of Energy Resources' (ENR) work on energy security, the energy transition, and U.S. support for Ukraine’s energy sector.

On August 21, Assistant Secretary Pyatt is scheduled to visit the headquarters of Westinghouse and Alcoa as well as the Shell Polymers plant. His visit will underscore American innovations in the energy sector, including decarbonization efforts, advanced nuclear reactor designs, and renewable energy use in heavy industry with an eye toward their relevance for international energy transition. Following these site visits, he will deliver remarks at a reception hosted by the Allegheny Conference on Community Development for local civic, community, and business leaders.

The following day, August 22, Assistant Secretary Pyatt will meet with leaders from Holtec International, a key supplier to the nuclear sector that is also active in Ukraine. He will participate in a roundtable discussion with the Pittsburgh Committee on Foreign Relations to share insights on ENR priorities. Additionally, he will join faculty and other foreign policy experts at the University of Pittsburgh Center for Governance and Markets—a long-time partner of the Department of State—to discuss key energy issues.
