Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard R. Verma will travel to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on August 25th to attend the 77th Little League Baseball World Series (LLBWS) championship game. The event will feature the winning team from the U.S. bracket versus the winning team of the international bracket.
During his visit, Verma will also explore the World of Little League Museum’s new exhibit titled “Girls with Game,” which honors pioneers who have advanced girls' participation in the LLBWS over the past 50 years. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Little League Softball.
Verma's visit aims to emphasize the significance of youth engagement in sports and its role in fostering cultural unity and positive social impact, particularly regarding inclusion, accessibility, and equality. His presence will highlight efforts to expand opportunities for girls and women in sports and underscore the State Department's support in facilitating travel for LLBWS participants globally. Additionally, this visit is part of a broader initiative to promote a series of major sporting events hosted by the United States over the next decade, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, LA2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and culminating with the 2034 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
