The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project filed a motion for a preliminary injunction on Friday to expedite the production of all documents from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’ role as the Biden-Harris Administration’s “Border Czar.” The motion requests that all documents be produced by September 21, 2024.
The Oversight Project initially submitted a Freedom of Information Act request in July seeking these records. When DHS refused to comply, the Oversight Project filed a lawsuit against the Biden-Harris Administration.
The motion was filed due to what the Oversight Project describes as delay tactics by the Biden-Harris Justice Department in searching for records and refusing to fulfill its legal obligations under FOIA.
Mike Howell, executive director of the Oversight Project, issued a statement on the emergency filing:
“Border Czar Kamala Harris oversaw the opening of our border to drug dealers, gang bangers, child abusers, terrorists on the watch list, and other criminals. In doing this, she also lost track of over 320,000 children. She has been a complete disaster."
"Now the lawyers at the Department of Justice have been called in to hide any documents about her reign of chaos. We've caught her in an absolute lie: if she weren’t the Border Czar, as she ridiculously claims, then there would be no documents related to her role. But here we are again, having to sue our own government for documents that belong to you, the American people, and hearing untold claims of complications and delay in searching for records that they claim do not exist.”
Vice President Harris’s role in charge of border security and illegal immigration in the Biden-Harris Administration is well documented. The documents at issue will help clarify her responsibilities as “Border Czar.”
