The U.S. Department of Labor has announced the allocation of $90 million in grants to organizations across 44 states and Puerto Rico. The funds aim to provide training, career services, and related support to migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their dependents, helping them develop skills for careers in both agriculture and non-agriculture sectors.
Administered by the department’s Employment and Training Administration, the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP) will distribute Career Services and Training grants to 51 organizations. These grants focus on worker-centered, sector-based training that involves industry partnerships, aiming for positive outcomes for both workers and employers. Among the recipients are eight organizations that did not receive an NFJP Career Services and Training award in the previous competition; these new grantees will share more than $15.8 million.
The NFJP assists organizations in offering quality career services and training opportunities to migrant and seasonal farmworkers, including youth and adults. This initiative helps participants obtain industry-recognized credentials in various industries.
This grant distribution follows a funding availability announcement made by the department on March 5, 2024. Authorized by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, NFJP grants are designed to deliver workforce solutions tailored to meet the needs of both workers and employers across multiple industries.
