TechNet, a national bipartisan network of innovation economy CEOs and senior executives, has submitted comments on the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) public draft guidance on Managing Misuse Risk for Dual-Use Foundation Models. TechNet President and CEO Linda Moore provided the following statement:
“The U.S. must be the global leader in AI investment, research, development, and deployment to ensure it is implemented safely across the world. NIST’s ongoing efforts to collaborate with industry, academia, and civil society are crucial to the development of resilient and responsible standards for testing AI systems.
“Developers, deployers, and users all play crucial roles in ensuring AI systems are safe and secure. To effectively address misuse risks, clear roles and responsibilities must be established throughout the AI lifecycle. While we appreciate NIST’s efforts, we believe this guidance falls short in clarifying these responsibilities.
“We look forward to continued engagement with NIST and other stakeholders as we work together to build guardrails for managing AI risks while fostering its benefits.”
