At the Supply Chain Summit, the Department of Commerce announced a series of initiatives to enhance supply chain resilience. These actions will be managed by the Industry & Analysis (I&A) business unit within the International Trade Administration.

The Department unveiled the SCALE Tool, a diagnostic supply chain risk assessment tool developed by its Supply Chain Center. This tool utilizes a comprehensive set of indicators to assess structural supply chain risks across various sectors of the U.S. economy. The SCALE Tool aims to provide in-depth assessments and facilitate data-driven conversations with industry stakeholders on risks and opportunities to improve supply chain resilience.

Assistant Secretary Grant Harris discussed how the SCALE Tool was developed and its intended applications during the Summit. The Supply Chain Center plans to release key findings from this tool and engage with industry stakeholders on these results.

Additionally, I&A will launch a competition aimed at developing new data or analysis to expand the indicators used in the SCALE Tool.

Further engagement with industry is planned, including a convening on AI Data Centers led by Secretary Raimondo this fall. This event will address risks associated with AI data center supply chains and involve discussions with upstream and downstream suppliers.

In 2025, I&A will conduct two tabletop exercises with industry partners focusing on supply chain risks in the chemicals sector and an emerging technology critical for maintaining U.S. strategic advantage.

Seven new strategic partnerships were also announced at the Summit, involving key stakeholders from industry and academia. These partnerships aim to promote global competitiveness, enhance business resilience, and foster innovation in supply chain management.

Lastly, I&A will host another Supply Chain Summit in 2025 to review progress made in enhancing American supply chain resiliency. The date for this event will be announced later.
