Blinken meets with Kenyan president to discuss strategic partnership

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Kenyan President William Ruto to discuss the strategic partnership between the United States and Kenya. The meeting focused on collaboration on shared priorities.

Spokesperson Matthew Miller provided a readout of the meeting, noting that Secretary Blinken expressed gratitude for Kenya’s leadership in the Multinational Security Support mission to Haiti. He also acknowledged Kenya's role in promoting regional peace and security in Africa.

"The Secretary thanked President Ruto for Kenya’s leadership of the Multinational Security Support mission to Haiti and for Kenya’s role in promoting regional peace and security in Africa," Miller stated.

The discussion included a review of shared democratic values, particularly regarding public anti-corruption measures and police accountability commitments that President Ruto has implemented following recent protests.

"The Secretary underscored our shared democratic values, including on implementation of the public anti-corruption and police accountability commitments President Ruto undertook in response to recent protests," Miller added.

Secretary Blinken reiterated the ongoing commitment of the United States to strengthen ties with Kenya. "The Secretary affirmed our ongoing commitment to strengthening the ties between our two nations," said Miller.
