The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a settlement with Underwater Creations Inc., based in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, over allegations of selling unregistered pesticide products. The agreement mandates that the company cease production and pay a penalty of $226,652.
The EPA cited Underwater Creations Inc. for allegedly distributing or selling five unregistered pesticides: Vibrant Reef, Vibrant Saltwater, Vibrant Freshwater, Expel, and Purge. These products were intended to eliminate aquarium pests.
According to the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), any product claiming to kill, destroy, prevent, or repel pests must be registered with the EPA. This registration ensures that such products perform as intended and are properly labeled before they can be distributed or sold.
