Facebook has announced the launch of Facebook Content Monetization beta, a new program designed to expand monetization opportunities for content creators. This initiative consolidates three existing Facebook-funded creator monetization programs—In-stream ads, Ads on Reels, and the Performance bonus—into one streamlined program. The new system will allow creators to earn from various content formats including Reels, longer videos, photos, and text posts.
"Since we announced Facebook-funded monetization in 2017, more than four million content creators have earned money on Facebook," stated a company representative. The expansion into additional formats has led to significant growth in payouts. Over the past year alone, Facebook has paid content creators over $2 billion for their contributions across different media types. Notably, payouts for reels and short videos have increased by more than 80% during this period.
The consolidation aims to simplify the earning process for creators by eliminating multiple eligibility requirements and sign-up processes that previously caused some creators to miss out on potential earnings. According to data from Facebook, only about one-third of monetizing creators currently earn from more than one of its funded programs.
"With Facebook Content Monetization, creators will only have to join one monetization program," explained the company. This unified approach allows them to monetize multiple formats and track their performance through a single set of insights.
Despite these changes, the payout model remains performance-based as it was with Ads on Reels, In-Stream Ads, and the Performance Bonus. "If you’ve been successful with Ads on Reels, that should continue in Content Monetization," noted the representative.
Invitations for the beta phase are being sent out this week to one million existing monetizing creators. These invited individuals can join via the Professional dashboard on mobile or Meta Business Suite on desktop. While open enrollment is not expected until 2025, interested creators can express their interest in early access through Facebook for Creators.
