Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III recently held a conversation with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, as reported by Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder. The call followed what was described as an "outrageous act of aggression" by Iran against Israel.
During the discussion, both officials acknowledged their appreciation for the joint efforts in defending Israel from a significant missile attack. The coordinated defense reportedly involved nearly 200 ballistic missiles launched by Iran, which were intercepted to prevent major casualties and damage.
Secretary Austin emphasized that the United States is prepared to protect its personnel and allies from threats posed by Iran and affiliated terrorist groups.
Additionally, Secretary Austin conveyed his condolences to those affected by a recent terrorist shooting in Israel, describing it as "horrific and deadly."
