The event, known as the G7 Competition Authorities and Policymakers Summit, focused on ensuring fair competition in AI technologies, products, and applications.

At the conclusion of the summit, FTC Chair Lina M. Khan and other representatives from G7 competition authorities and government policymakers released a Communiqué. This document highlighted potential competition concerns within AI-related markets and established guiding principles for maintaining fair competition across these markets.

The Communiqué emphasized the crucial role of competition authorities and policymakers in addressing competitive threats. It pointed out that concentrated market power in AI-related sectors, along with possible collusion or improper information sharing through AI technologies, requires careful monitoring and timely enforcement of competition laws. The G7 authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring open and fair competition in digital markets and AI while aiming to make the benefits of AI widely accessible across society.

This summit was organized under the G7 Industry, Technology, and Digital Ministerial Declaration. It was hosted in Rome by the Italian Competition Authority (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato) as part of Italy's rotating presidency of the G7.

The Federal Trade Commission collaborates with international agencies to promote effective antitrust policies, consumer protection, and data privacy enforcement.
