According to Spokesperson Matthew Miller, the discussion focused on the ongoing situation in the Middle East. Both officials emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts to enable citizens of Israel and Lebanon to return home.

The talks also included discussions on joint initiatives to boost humanitarian aid in Gaza and efforts to secure the release of hostages. Secretary Blinken reaffirmed "the United States condemnation in the strongest terms of Iran’s military attack against Israel on October 1."
