U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo recently engaged in a call with China's Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao. The conversation revolved around the second meeting of the U.S.-China Commercial Issues Working Group (CIWG) that took place last month.
Secretary Raimondo expressed concerns from the U.S. business community regarding diminishing regulatory transparency in China, non-market policies and practices, and structural overcapacity in various industrial sectors. She emphasized that "U.S. national security is not negotiable" and highlighted the U.S. government's "small yard, high fence" strategy aimed at protecting national security while allowing for trade and investment.
Both parties agreed to keep communication channels open in the coming months.
