Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken is set to visit Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) from October 8 to 11. During his visit, he will represent the United States at the ASEAN and related leaders’ meetings.

In Lao PDR, Secretary Blinken will attend the East Asia Summit and the U.S.-ASEAN Summit. His participation underscores the United States' commitment to ASEAN centrality and its support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. This outlook shares core principles with the U.S. Indo-Pacific Strategy.

"The Secretary will highlight how the U.S.-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is delivering concrete benefits for our combined one billion people, including through our economic cooperation and increased engagement on emerging technology such as artificial intelligence."

Secretary Blinken's agenda includes discussions on geopolitical issues like the crisis in Burma, adherence to international law in the South China Sea, and Russia’s actions against Ukraine. Additionally, he plans to reaffirm U.S. support for Laos during its ASEAN Chair Year and emphasize strengthening ties through the U.S.-Lao PDR Comprehensive Partnership.
