Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, highlighting the longstanding alliance between the United States and Thailand. During their meeting, Secretary Blinken emphasized the shared history and values that underpin the relationship between the two nations.

"There’s a powerful shared history, a foundation of shared values, and I think also a commitment both bilaterally and also our work through ASEAN to focus on things that we can do to better the lives of our people," said Blinken. He mentioned areas of cooperation such as inclusive economic growth, joint security challenges, climate change, and clean energy transition.

Prime Minister Shinawatra echoed these sentiments by affirming the strong relationship between Thailand and the United States. "I believe that USA and Thailand has a very long-term good relationship," she stated. She also highlighted ongoing issues in Thailand, particularly flooding in the northern regions. "The problem right now that Thailand is facing...the north of Thailand is flooding every day," she noted but added that recovery efforts are underway.

Blinken acknowledged these challenges and expressed his willingness to discuss them further along with other topics during their meeting.
