Acting Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, Lee Satterfield, is scheduled to visit Los Angeles, California from October 24 to 26, 2024. During her visit, she will cohost an event with Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy®, to celebrate the inaugural cohort of the American Music Mentorship Program (AMMP) and announce this year's recipient of the PEACE Through Music Award.
The Global Music Diplomacy Initiative, announced by Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken in 2023, includes this partnership with the Recording Academy. The initiative aims to promote peace and democracy through music while supporting broader U.S. foreign policy goals such as expanding access to education and economic opportunities as well as promoting equity and inclusion.
The AMMP is a mentorship program designed for mid-level music professionals including producers, executives, lawyers, talent agents, and promoters from Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria. These participants collaborate with experts from the Recording Academy to enhance their knowledge and networks within the global creative economy ecosystem.
The PEACE Through Music Award honors significant contributions by American music industry professionals or artists who facilitate cross-cultural exchanges through their work in music. Quincy Jones was recognized as the first recipient of this award in 2023.
