The United States and the Principality of Liechtenstein have released a joint statement following the inaugural U.S.-Liechtenstein Strategic and Economic Partnership Dialogue held in Washington, DC on October 22-23, 2024. This event marked a significant step in the partnership between the two nations.
Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell hosted the dialogue, with Dominique Hasler, Liechtenstein's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport, representing her country. Senior representatives from both governments participated in the discussions.
The dialogue highlighted shared values and commitments to strengthen cooperation on various economic and security priorities. Key topics included enhancing economic collaboration, fostering people-to-people connections, addressing Russia’s actions in Ukraine, combating foreign information manipulation, and dealing with geopolitical tensions.
Both countries expressed their solidarity with Ukraine and emphasized support for its sovereignty. They discussed accountability measures for Russia and addressed challenges related to supporters of Russia's defense industrial base. Cooperation at the UN and countering disinformation campaigns were also focal points.
Economic ties were celebrated during the dialogue as both parties assessed progress in increasing bilateral trade and investment. The importance of apprenticeship training was recognized as a means to promote business ties and workforce development, following a recent Memorandum of Understanding. The U.S. praised Liechtenstein’s efforts in sanctions enforcement and anti-money laundering initiatives.
The United States acknowledged Liechtenstein’s accession to the International Monetary Fund as its 191st member on October 21. Additionally, Liechtenstein was commended for passing marriage equality legislation earlier this year.
Both nations are committed to ongoing dialogue to further strengthen their bilateral relationship. The next session is planned for Vaduz in 2026.
